Manchester City injury crisis deepens as defender out ‘for a long time’

English Premier League Champions, Manchester City have been dealt another major injury blow with Portuguese center-back Ruben Dias ruled out for up to a month.

Dias picked up a knock in the 75th minute of last Sunday’s 2-1 loss to city rivals, Manchester United but completed the whole 90 minutes of the game.

While speaking in a prematch conference for the weekend’s early kickoff game against Aston Villa at the Villa Park, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that the star defender will be out of action for an extended period.

“Three or four weeks. Muscular. After 75 minutes against United he felt something. He’s strong and wanted to stay on the pitch, but now he’s injured. Ruben is out for a long time”, he said.

The 27-year old has featured regularly for the Cityzens this season and had played 19 matches in all competitions this season.

The former Benfica defender’s injury adds to the long list of injured Manchester City players with the likes of Euro 2024 winner Rodri, Oscar Bobb, and Nathan Ake still out of action with injuries.

His injury will be a huge blow to Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to end their poor run of form which has seen them win just once in the past 11 games.

Manchester City will face Unai Emery’s side on Saturday in the English Premier League hoping to catch up to League leaders Liverpool, and despite Dias’ injury, they will be buoyed by the return of defenders Manuel Akanji and John Stones.
