English Premier League Champions Manchester City have shown interest in signing Brazilian midfielder, Ederson from Atalanta ahead of the January transfer window.
The Brazilian has been instrumental in Atalanta’s rise to the summit of the Italian Serie A and has been identified as a prime candidate to replace Ballon D’or winner, Rodri who is currently out of action with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Pep Guardiola’s City have been hit with injuries this season and a move for the 25-year old is necessary as they look to end a poor run of form that has seen them win just once in 11 games in all competition.
The former Corinthians midfielder joined Atalanta in 2022 and has was an integral part of the squad that won the UEFA Europa league in the 2023/24 season defeating German champions Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final courtesy of an Ademola Lookman’s hat trick.
This season, he has logged 1,874 minutes of action in 22 games in all competitions for the Bergamo club scoring twice and providing one assist for his teammates.
Ederson’s versatility and skill makes him unique and his pace will also be essential in adapting to the high press of English football if he eventually makes a move.
Pep Guardiola will be hopeful of convincing the Brazilian to join the Cityzens although they face fierce competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United who are also also interested in signing the Brazilian.
Atalanta could be reluctant to sell their star midfielder in the middle of the season but at the right price, a deal could be in place for the transfer of the versatile midfielder.
