Out of favour Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is reportedly attracting interest from reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, who are said to be working towards a potential transfer in January.
Disasi currently finds himself way below in the pecking order at Chelsea when it comes to center-back options, with the likes of Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile usually getting the nod ahead of him.
This season, the Frenchman has been limited to just four Premier League appearances. He appeared in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory back in September before waiting until late October before featuring in a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Disasi failed to make a Premier League appearance in November but has since managed two in month of December, a 5-1 trashing of Southampton and goalless draw against Everton.
Despite head coach Enzo Maresca’s lack of utilization of the French defender in Premier League games, the Blues boss has deployed Disasi’s talents more often in the UEFA Europa Conference League where he has featured eight times.
However, Sky Sports Switzerland reports that Disasi is frustrated with his lack of opportunities in the Premier League and the France international is now open to leaving Chelsea in January as he seeks to resuscitate his career.
The 26-year-old’s situation has drawn interest from Bayer Leverkusen, who are exploring a winter move amid concerns over the future of captain Jonathan Tah.
The Germany international is in the final six months of his contract at the Bay Arena and has confirmed he will not sign a renewal, prompting Leverkusen to consider defensive reinforcements.
Italian juggernauts Juventus have also expressed interest in Disasi but are reportedly only able to offer a loan deal, which might not appeal to Chelsea.
Maresca, meanwhile, has emphasized his desire to retain every player but admitted those struggling for minutes must decide whether they are willing to continue competing for their place.
