Postecoglou identifies areas for improvement, calls for new signings in January.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the club needs to strengthen in areas where they lack quality personnel in the January transfer window.

Spurs have been hit with injuries to key players with Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario all out injured, while influential midfielder Rodrigo Bentacur has missed the past few games due to suspension.

Ahead of their Boxing day fixture against high-flying Nottingham Forest, when asked if Spurs will be active in the January transfer window, Postecoglou said,

“Like I said a while ago, we’ve been planning. A lot of it was going to be around where we’re at around this time. Fair to say we’re still a little bit short in a couple of areas and we need to reinforce.

January’s trickier in terms of what sort of players you can bring in. For us, ideal – for any club, I guess – you want to bring in people who are going to make you stronger.”

Spurs are currently 11th on the English Premier League table having lost three of their past four league matches, including a 6-3 defeat to league leaders, Liverpool on Sunday.

They are however in the semifinals of the EFL cup and are poised to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Europa League, meaning they have to bring in new players to boost their squad.

“It’s not like our schedule’s going to ease up at any stage. So I think it makes sense. We will try and reinforce”, he continued.

Spurs have been linked to the likes of Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen and AC Milan midfield stalwart Tijjani Reijnders as they look to improve their depleted squad.

“You don’t just want to panic and bring in anybody, that you don’t think will help our cause in the back half of the year, but I think we’ve already shown we are pretty methodical and prudent about our work.”
