Sporting CP set to sack new coach, weeks after Ruben Amorim’s exit

Reigning Portuguese Primera Liga champions Sporting CP could sack Ruben Amorim’s replacement Joao Pereira just eight games after he was appointed.

Portuguese tactician Amorim left Sporting CP for Manchester United in November after four years at the helms of affairs.

During his time at Sporting, he led them to the Primera Liga and Portuguese Cup twice each. This season, Sporting CP were on a roll before Manchester United appointed him. He was on an unbeaten run, winning 16 of his 17 games.

However, since Pereira took over at Sporting, their performances have plummeted significantly. The 40-year-old tactician has won just two games in normal time, he has lost four games and drawn two.

Sporting CP’s poor run of form has seen them drop to second place in the Primera Liga. And following his disappointing start to life, he just could leave the club soon.

According to Transfer News Live, Sporting CP are contemplating sacking Pereira just a month after he was appointed. Their next game is against close rivals Benfica on December 29, and if Pereira does not get sacked before then, he would surely get sacked if he loses.

Sporting tried to replicate what they did with Amorim, as he was appointed as coach after working with the junior team for some years. They took the same approach with Pereira, but that decision has not paid off.

Hence, if they will appoint a new coach, it will likely be someone who is not in the Sporting system currently.
