Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are close to completing the signing of German defender Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.
Tah has been heavily linked with a transfer away from Bayer Leverkusen in recent months. The 28-year-old center-back played an important role in Die Werkself’s maiden Bundesliga titles win last season. And after their success, he attracted some top clubs in Europe.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in acquiring his services, but Bayer Leverkusen insisted on keeping him.
This season, he has registered 25 appearances with two goals to his name. But it now looks increasingly likely that he will leave Bayer Leverkusen soon. This is as Werkself Xtra report that Barcelona are in advanced talks with Tah.
However, they will not complete the transfer during the January transfer window. Instead, he will leave for Barcelona during the summer transfer window when his contract would have expired.
This is in line with Barcelona’s strategy of signing decent players who have expired contract. The club has employed this strategy due to their financial issues.
Meanwhile, Tah’d signing could signal the exit of one of the defenders at Barcelona. Ronaldo Araujo’s future has been in question in recent months due to the interest he has garnered from abroad. Also, Inigo Martinez is ageing, and the Blaugrana would be looking to add someone younger to their backline.
