Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has showered praises on youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly, after another outstanding display in the Gunners 1-0 win over Ipswich Town.
German international Kai Havertz got the only goal of the game in the first half after great work from Leandro Trossard, to move the former Premier League Champions up to second on the log and Arteta was impressed by the teenager’s confidence and ability in the match.
“He is a special character – he has the capacity to ask certain questions that I don’t have the answers to”, Arteta said after the match.
The 18-year old has made 14 appearances for the Gunners this season, including four starts in the league.
He was preferred ahead of the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Kieran Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, who were all fit, in the victory over the Tractor Boys.
“He’s well ahead of his age, so mature. He has a good environment and a really good family. He’s adapted well to the way we’re playing. Credit to him.”
The England U-19 international produced another assured display as he helped to shut down threats from Ipswich Town forward Omari Hutchinson.
His eye-catching performance included completing 58 of 59 passes, attempting three successful tackles, winning nine duels and making two clearances.
He also completed two take-ons and created two chances for his teammates as the Gunners moved six points behind Liverpool at the top of the standings.
The Hale End Academy product will hope to make another impression on Mikel Arteta when Arsenal travel to Brentford on New Years day.
