Dele-Bashiru: Nigerian Midfielder credits Lazio manager for improvement in performance

Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has praised head coach Marco Baroni, as he continues his recent redemption in the team.

The Nigeria international who joined Lazio in the summer from Turkish side Hatayspor, on an initial loan deal but with an obligation to sign on a permanent basis, was brought in to replace Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto who joined Qatari side Al Duhail.

Despite initially struggling to hold a strong foot in the team, the 23-year old has improved greatly after a slow start, including scoring Lazio’s only goal in the 1-1 draw against league leaders Atalanta on Saturday.

“They [Baroni and the Lazio coaching staff] help me a lot, and what he wants me to do more is when I receive the ball, to go forward more, my body positions, things like that. So I’m trying to implement that into my game”, the Nigerian said in a recent interview.

The attacking midfielder has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Biancazzurri, scoring four goals and providing two assists as they currently occupy the fourth position in the Italian Serie A, six points off the top of the standings.

After the game against Atalanta, the 61-year old Baroni also praised Dele-Bashiru’s determination saying, “Dele is improving every day.

“He played a lot in the Europa League this season and perhaps needs more quality in his passing, but he is physically very effective.”

Dele-Bashiru will hope to continue his brilliant form as he pushes for a start in Lazio’s next game in the Rome Derby on Sunday.
