‘The point was not enough’- Unai Emery disappointed with Aston Villa’s draw against Brighton and Hove Albion

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, was left disappointed with the full-time result and felt his side deserved more after their 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday.

The Seagulls took an early lead in the 12th minute through Simon Adingra but Unai Emery’s side hit back moments later through a penalty by Ollie Watkins, which was awarded after a VAR check for a foul on Morgan Rodgers.

The 22-year old Rodgers then gave Villa the lead, before they were pegged back in the closing stages of the game through a stunning effort by Tariq Lamptey.

Watkins then missed the chance to seal victory with virtually the last kick of the game, when he blazed over from close range.

“The point was not enough. How we started was a big mistake but we corrected it and progressively got better.

The second half we started very well and didn’t concede a lot. They tried to get something more and they did. We were pushing and had the last chance with Ollie Watkins. I think we deserved to win”, Emery said after the match.

The draw means the West Midland side have failed to win both of their last two leagues matches, after falling to the in-form Newcastle United 3-0 in their last outing on Boxing Day.

“Sometimes it is not enough. We have to be proud of everything we did. We have to try start again to improve thing.”

Unai Emery will hope his team bounce back to form when they face relegation-threatened Leicester City on Saturday, in their first league match of the new year.
