Former Super Eagles of Nigeria Captain John Obi Mikel, believes Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will not renew his contract at the Reds, but rather leave the club to join European champions Real Madrid.
The 26-years old whose contract at his boyhood club expires this summer has previously revealed intentions of moving to Spain to join the Los Blancos.
With the January transfer window opened, the Spanish giants have already made an approach to sign the England defender with Liverpool insisting he is not for sale, as they look to focus on winning the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is absolutely fantastic. He has been brilliant for Liverpool. I know there’s talk about the contract if he’s staying or not, or if he’s going to join his mate Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid.
No disrespect to Liverpool. Liverpool is a giant of a football club, but Real Madrid is Real Madrid”, Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.
Arnold has made over 300 appearances for the Merseyside club and is widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in football currently.
“When you look at Trent he oozes Real Madrid. I see him going to Real Madrid, I don’t see him renewing. Out of the three, I think he’s probably the one that will walk come the end of the season”, the former Chelsea midfielder added.
With Liverpool also facing similar contractual situations with Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Dutch captain Virgil Van Dijk, it remains to be seen which of the three stars remain at the Reds beyond the season with top European clubs lurking.
