Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he is responsible for the dismal run of results for the English Premier League Champions.
The Cityzens have only won twice in the past 14 games, suffering nine losses in the span, the worst record in the Spanish manager’s coaching career.
“There are many, many things [involved in being a manager] and I missed something – something I am not doing well.
In the end, when you lose a lot of games it is an incredible responsibility for the manager to take. There is something the team needs and confidence and I was not able to do it”, Guardiola said in the prematch conference for Saturday’s game against the Hammers.
“The call is on me first, it’s not the players. They naturally drop a little bit and that is normal. It happened a little bit last season as well.”
The Champions sit sixth on the standings and are 14 points off league leaders, Liverpool who have a game in hand, as they have suffered consistently from injuries and loss of form to key players.
“With this consistency [of results] I should have found it, and that is why we’re in this position.
“I blame [myself]. It’s not to say, ‘oh how nice is Pep’ – it’s the truth. I lead that group of players and I could not lift them. This is the reality”, he added.
The Cityzens prepare to face West Ham United later on Saturday as they look to secure a second consecutive win as they hope to reignite their season.
