Former Premier League Champions Arsenal, have been dealt another injury blow with teenage sensation
The 17-year old who had been drafted into the team to replace injured England winger Bukayo Saka, was substituted at halftime in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion and was replaced by Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli.
While revealing the team news before Tuesday’s Carabao cup semifinal first leg against Newcastle United, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the young forward who made his first-team debut in September 2022, will be out of action for a while.
“Unfortunately, he has picked up an injury and he is going to be out for a few weeks. He didn’t really know, to be fair. He said, ‘I am feeling something but I don’t really know what it is’.
He has earned the right to step up and play for us and now he has started some games – some big games – and impacted those games in the way he has done, in different positions too”, Arteta said.
The England Under 19 international had earlier made his league debut in the 3-1 victory over Brentford on New Years Day, where he dazzled and was awarded the player of the match and he adds to the Gunners long injury list which also includes Chelsea loanee Raheem Sterling.
“I am gutted for him because the injury is going to stop that, but it is another step in that development phase that he is in. I am really happy with the way he is going.”
Mikel Arteta’s side host the Magpies at the Emirates on Tuesday hoping to secure a win in a bid to end their trophy drought.
