Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is confident that South Korean captain Heung-Min Son will regain top form, while also claiming that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah would struggle in Spurs current setup.
Son, whose contract was recently extended by a year after the North London side triggered the option to extend, has suffered from a loss of form this season. The 32-year old has five goals and six assists in the league this season, a drop-off from his previous seasons.
The Egyptian winger has been the best player in the league this season with very impressive numbers. He has a mouthwatering 21 goals and 17 assists in all competitions this season, as Liverpool currently sit top of the English Premier league and the UEFA Champions League.
“People need to have a little bit of context. Mo is a world-class player but if you put him in our team now I’m not sure he’ll have that same level of performance because of the situation we’re in as a group”, Postecoglou said.
“You need a team that’s in good form, creating opportunities, playing on the front foot, having a really solid foundation of a defence that is cohesive. None of these things exist at the moment [at Spurs]. We’re relying on individual moments.
Mo is an unbelievable player but he’s playing in a fantastic team that are flying. I’d hazard to say that if you put Sonny in Liverpool’s team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent”, he continued.
Spurs have won just twice in their past 11 games in all competitions and host the table-toppers today, knowing a victory will do their confidence a lot of good.
