Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has assured fans he is “all good” after receiving extensive treatment during the first half of Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final victory over Liverpool.
Bentancur collapsed to the ground unchallenged in the opening ten minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, appearing to hit his head on the pitch while attempting to attack a corner kick. The Spurs midfielder remained motionless, lying face down, causing significant concern among players from both teams.
Following nearly ten minutes of medical attention on the field, Bentancur was stretchered off to a standing ovation from the crowd. Despite his absence, Spurs secured a 1-0 victory. Fans were further relieved and delighted when Bentancur shared a reassuring update on social media after the match.
“All good guys!” the message, which was above a smiling photograph of the player and his partner, read. “Thank you for the messages. Congratulations on the victory boys.”

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about the incident after the match. “It was worrying and that [a head injury] is always concerning, but we think at this stage he is going to be OK,” the manager stressed. “He was conscious on his way to the dressing room.”
Quizzed further about the type of injury Bentancur had sustained, the Australian opted to be cautious with his response: “I don’t want to speculate because I don’t really know either. All I know is he was conscious when he came off.
“Obviously it was some sort of head injury, but he was conscious when he was coming off the field. And he’s been taken to the hospital for observation. But I’m not really clear on how it happened.
“Unless I get a doctor out here, I’m not going to speculate because it’s just not fair on people around him. There was concern from players out there so obviously there was something going on.”
