Enyimba FC manager Stanley Eguma, was impressed with his side’s performance after they secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nasarawa United in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
The Aba-based club secured a first victory in seven league matches on Wednesday, after also securing an important 4-1 victory on Sunday over Black Bulls in the CAF Confederations Cup.
After an impressive start to the season, the People’s Elephant faltered midway into the first round eventually sacking former coach Yemi Olanrewaju, who was replaced by the 64-year old Eguma.
“I’m happy the players are giving me maximum cooperation. I can assure you they are doing well, though some are yet to meet up. Injuries have also troubled the team, but we’ll work hard to get the injured players back and harness the squad to create what we can call a perfect team”, he said.
Enyimba took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Joseph Atule, before the men from Nasarawa hit back through Anas Yusuf. 2013 AFCON-winning striker, Brown Ideye, who joined the club last month after spells in Europe, scored the decisive goal four minutes later, as the Aba boys moved to seventh on the league table.
“Since we began, we have been rebuilding, so it’s not yet uhuru; it’s not yet time for celebration. I think a lot has to be done in the team. I thank the management for giving me the opportunity to rebuild”, Eguma continued.
“The league is open. We have more than 19 games to play, so why can’t we be optimistic? The fans should trust the process. We’ve come to do the job and won’t let them down. They are hardworking and supportive, and we’ll work hard to leave a good legacy.”
