Former Manchester United and West Ham United manager David Moyes, has expressed excitement on his return to management with former side Everton.
The 61-year old returns to Goodison Park for the second time, 11-and-a-half years after leaving in his first stint in charge, and a first managerial job since leaving the Hammers at the end of last season.
The Scottish manager was appointed for a second spell at the Merseyside club to replace former manager Sean Dyche, who was sacked few hours before Thursday’s 3-0 win over Peterborough in the FA Cup third round, and has said the decision to take the job was a no-brainer.
“It’s great to be back!. I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club”, Moyes said.
“I’m excited to be working with [new owners] The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team”, he continued.
Moyes left the club initially in 2013, to replace the great Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but he was sacked not long, after a disappointing spell in charge. He was also at the helms of affairs at London side West Ham United, and led them to the UEFA Conference League trophy in the 2022-23 season before leaving at the end of last season.
He makes his return to Everton, who sit 17th on the league standings- just a point above the relegation zone, and is tasked with turning their season around. His first match in achieving this will be against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa next Wednesday.
