Enyimba FC head coach Stanley Eguma, has said his team is ready for battle when they go against Egyptian outfit Al Masry in a must-win CAF Confederations cup match on Sunday.
The Aba Boys head into the game in full confidence, after claiming back to back victories, the first a 4-1 win over Black Bulls in last Sunday’s continental game before claiming a hard-earned 2-1 triumph over Nasarawa United on Wednesday in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
They are currently bottom of their Group D standings, needing to win their last two group games to secure qualification for the next round and Eguma, who took over last month, is optimistic about their chances.
“Sunday’s game is a big one, we are prepared for it. Being new in the team and trying to study the players and get them understand my philosophy, I think we have come to the stage where understanding should be coming”, the former Rivers United manager said.
“For tomorrow (Sunday) we are ready. We know that Al Masry is a strong team, and they are regular performers in the CAF Inter-club competitions. And so far, they have been posting good results.
I think this match is very crucial to us. We need to rise to the occasion in order to catch up and start focusing on qualifying from the group.”
A win will take the Peoples Elephant to second place ahead of their last group game against Continental giants, Zamalek of Egypt.
“I’ve faced them in the past as a coach, and I know their antecedents. I know the kind of football they play. They are equally well-motivated with lots of incentives”, he added.
“I know they are coming here (Uyo) to see if they can salvage a draw by bringing their antics, slowing down the game, especially when the scoreline is in their favour.”
