Eric Chelle: Super Eagles new head coach excited about managerial role

Newly appointed Nigeria football team head coach Eric Chelle, has said the chance to lead the Super Eagles was an opportunity he could not resist.

The 47-year old was appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation earlier this week, to replace Austin Eguavoen who had been in a temporary position since June 2024, and the former Mali National team coach is confident of success as he prepares to lead the Super Eagles.

Chelle, who signed off at Algerian side MC Oran with a 1-0 victory over ES Setif in the Algeria cup on Saturday, will travel to Nigeria to sign the paperworks to become the 2024 AFCON finalists head coach, and he was grateful for the support and love shown to him as he prepares for a new chapter in his managerial career.

”I thank the Hamraoua fans, the inhabitants of Oran and all Algerians for their welcome and their support. The MCO will always have a special place in my heart,” Chelle said during his interaction with the media after the game.

“This is my last meeting with you and it marks the end of my adventure here. From Monday, I will be in Nigeria to start a new chapter. The MCO officials insisted that I continue, but one cannot refuse to lead the one of the best teams in Africa and the world.”

Eric Chelle will be tasked with securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an uphill task considering the Super Eagles are currently fifth in Group C, four points behind Rwanda who they face in March.
