Former Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp, has weighed down on Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah’s contractual situation at the English club, stating his desire for the forward to remain at the club beyond the end of this season.
Salah’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and a renewal is yet to be agreed between both parties, meaning the former Chelsea forward could begin negotiation with foreign clubs this month.
German coach Klopp, who left Liverpool in the summer after nine years in charge, signed Salah from Italian side AS Roma in 2017 and achieved success in the seven years spent alongside the Egyptian forward.
“I hope he stays. [He’s] the biggest striker LFC had in the modern times. Obviously there were other really good strikers, but fantastic player, fantastic human being, outstanding athlete, best ambassador your country [Egypt] could have.
Fantastic in all departments, so I hope he will stay at Liverpool”, Klopp said.
The pair won multiple trophies together at Liverpool, including the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League and multiple domestic titles.
The 32-year old has been in brilliant form this season, with 21 goals and 17 assists in 28 matches in all competitions as the Reds top bid to achieve victory in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. They are also in contention to reach the final of the Carabao Cup, trailing Tottenham Hotspur by a lone goal going into the second leg in February.
