Nigerian Professional Football League side Nasarawa United, have been charged by the League management authorities for violating the rules and regulations, following their Match against Rivers United in December.
The Matchday 18 fixture which took place in Nasarawa ended in a 1-1 draw, as Rivers United fought down from a goal down to grab a valuable away point. Fans of the Solid Miners were said to have disrupted the flow of the game, which is a breach of the 2025 NPFL rules as set by the league management committee.
In a statement released on social media, the Nasarawa-based outfit were charged on three counts of fan encroachment, assault of the away team and assault of match officials.
“Nasarawa Utd have been charged for breaching the NPFL Framework & Rules in the course of their Matchday 18 fixture vs. Rivers Utd on December 22, 2024. The Lafia club breached NPFL25 rules following encroachment unto the field of play in the course of the match”, NPFL wrote on social media.
“Nasarawa Utd also failed to ensure proper conduct of their team & supporters which led to the assault on the away team.
The club’s supporters also assaulted one of the match officials (centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim).”
They were also slapped with a hefty fine and face a point deduction for the disturbace caused by their supporters.
“Nasarawa Utd will pay a fine of N3 million, being N1 million each for encroachment unto the pitch, failure to ensure proper conduct of their team & supporters & failure to provide adequate & effective security.
3 points and 3 goals shall be deducted from Nasarawa Utd’s accrued points & goals for the assault on centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim”, they continued.
The Solid Miners who have 48 hours to appeal the judgement, were also compelled to close their stadium from fans until security of visiting teams and officials are guaranteed, while also being instructed to provide the perpetrator who had assaulted the mentioned official.
