Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was disappointed with his side’s performance, following their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The Blues came into the match on the back of four league matches without a win, and their frustration grew at the final whistle after yet another match without victory.
They started on a bright note after good work from Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson found Cole Palmer, who slotted home calmly in the 13th minute. The Blues had several chances to increase their tally, but were unable to find a way in the Cherries goal.
“I think we deserved much more, especially in the first half. That’s football. The negative thing is that we changed how we played after conceding. We dropped back”, Maresca said after the match.
“For sure, the most important thing is to create chances. It happened many times in the last four or five games. We don’t score and then we concede. Tonight after we concede the penalty, we drop a bit and we need to improve on that.”
Justin Kluivert, who had come on as a first half substitute for the injured James Hill, equalized from the spot early in the second half, before Antoine Semenyo’s bullet shot flew in beyond the helpless Robert Sanchez as Bournemouth took the lead.
Chelsea’s captain Reece James, scored a brilliant freekick in stoppage time as the Blues avoided a defeat and were left to ponder on what could have been.
“The game was completely in our control and it’s something we need to improve.
I have concerns always even when we are winning matches. This is the Premier League, when you don’t create chances and don’t score then you have to be more concerned”, he added.
