Manchester City are close to striking a deal with Italian side Juventus for defender Andre Cambiaso during this January transfer window.
According to reports, the 24-year old has been a transfer target for club manager, Pep Guardiola, who remains keen on strengthening the team’s defensive line-up. This comes after Guardiola confirmedKyle Walker’s decision to ‘explore opportunities’ outside the club.
Walker, 34, has been a pivotal figure at Manchester City since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, contributing to multiple Premier League titles and domestic cups. However, English defender has been in poor form this season, making only 18 appearances, as Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled to maintain their quest for a fifth consecutive Premier League crown
In anticipation of Walker’s departure, Manchester City have identified Andrea Cambiaso as a versatile replacement. Since joining Juventus, Cambiaso has established himself as a crucial member of Thiago Motta’s team, demonstrating his adaptability by playing in various positions, including full-back, defensive midfield, and right wing-back.
Cambiaso’s ability to seamlessly transition across multiple roles makes him an ideal fit for Guardiola’s tactical flexibility. His defensive prowess, combined with his offensive support, is expected to enhance Manchester City’s backline as they look to regain their footing in the latter half of the season.
