Bournemouth’s Iraola lauds ‘unforgettable’ win over Newcastle United

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola, was impressed with his side’s performance after they recorded an impressive 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Cherries were boosted by a brilliant individual performance from Dutch international Justin Kluivert, who scored a hat-trick on the day, as they defeated the Premier League’s most in-form side at the St James Park.

“Very proud of my players. I think we played a very complete game. We started very strong. We didn’t want to lose a little bit of our identity, even if we knew the difficult circumstances with the bench players”, Iraola said.

Bournemouth took an early lead in the first half when the Dutchman swept home from an Antoine Semenyo’s cross, before doubling the lead close to halftime from a Dango Ouattara’s assist, after Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes had equalized for the host.

The former Roma midfielder completed his hat-trick, his second of the season, in stoppage time when he scored from a Tyler Adams pass, before he turned provider moments later as he made the assist for a Milos Kerkez stunner to cap off a remarkable outing.

“We decided to play like we normally do. I think every player that has played today has done his part and extra. I feel very happy for them. To be part of this win and the way we won, I think it’s going to be unforgettable for us”, he added.

The Cherries moved up to sixth on the standings with their latest victory, just a point behind the Magpies in fourth place.
