Victor Osimhen: Nigerian striker on target, rues missed chances in disappointing result

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was disappointed with the results, as his goal was not enough to secure maximum points after Galatasaray were held to a 1-1 draw by Hatayspor.

The on-loan Napoli striker equalized from the spot in the 56th minute, after the Lions had fallen behind to a first half strike by Turkish defender Cemali Sertel, who opened scoring for Hatayspor.

Galatasaray had several chances to kill off the game, but a combination of poor finishing and brilliant goalkeeping condemned them to drop points against their 18th-placed opponents.

“There was a bit of a lack of intensity in the first half. We let the opponent play a bit. Then, with the speech of our coach, we started the second half very well,” he told the club’s official website.

“We also increased the intensity. We focused a lot on our game. These matches are difficult. We need to maintain our focus. We need to take advantage of every opportunity. We missed many opportunities. We will try to do better by learning from our mistakes.”

The defending Turkey Super League champions still maintain a nine-point lead over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, who are in second place and have a game in hand.

“I don’t think there is fatigue in the team. This is our job. It’s not just the 11 players. The guys on the bench are always ready”, he continued.

“I think it’s normal to have two games during the week and two at the weekend. I’m always ready and I always want to play for my team. We’ll look at this game and see our mistakes. We’ll learn from them and try to do better.”
