Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, was impressed with the Blues showing in their 3-1 triumph over Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night, downplaying their temporary loss of form.
The Blues failed to win any of their previous five games coming into the match, and got off to the perfect start when Tosin Adarabioyo strike was given after a VAR check for offside in the buildup.
Wolves equalized through Matt Doherty on the stroke of halftime after a goalkeeping howler by Robert Sanchez, before the Blues scored twice in the second half through Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke to seal a comprehensive victory at the Stamford Bridge.
“The first 40 minutes, we were top. The performance was very good; completely dominate the game, score, chances. Then the last five minutes happen, what is happening many times in the last four or five games. We lost a little bit of confidence, concede the goal and struggle a little bit”, Maresca said.
“Second half, we start quite well and after the second and third goal, the game was in control.”
Chelsea moved back into the top four with the win, two points ahead of Premier League champions Manchester City who are in fifth place, ahead of next weekend’s clash with Pep Guardiola’s side.
“They did fantastic, Tosin and Trev. But I think all of them – also Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was a long time without a game. Overall, I think the performance was good. We are happy we won the game.
Then from tomorrow we will start to think about [Manchester] City, which for sure will be a tough game. In the last five games, we created many chances and didn’t score. Tonight we scored three”, he added.
