German champions Bayer Leverkusen, have been handed an injury boost with Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, expected to return to action against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The 24-year old was named as part of the traveling squad to face the Spanish giants, in a crucial Champions league fixture after being out of action for over two months, since suffering a hamstring injury in mid-November during a Bundesliga match against Bochum.
He was initially ruled out for the rest of 2024 and expected back in action for the German champions first game of the year against Borussia Dortmund, but suffered a setback in his rehabilitation process.
“We trained again this morning and then we decided that Victor Boniface can travel to Madrid with the team. He’s getting better and better and will be in the squad [against Atlético] tomorrow.
This is very positive news for all of us and of course for him. Boni is feeling good and it’s great that he’s back with us”, Alonso stated.
The Nigerian international who made his return to training recently, trained with his teammates yesterday and is expected to feature in the matchday squad ahead of the encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano.
His return is a timely boost for the Die Werkself who have won eleven consecutive matches in all competitions, as they look to challenge for both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
