Liverpool star reveals transfer stance amid lingering exit rumours

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has made it clear he has no plans to leave the club during the January transfer window after scoring the decisive goal in the Reds’ Champions League victory over Lille.

The Liverpool academy graduate notched his first UCL goal at Anfield with a deflected strike after coming on at halftime. His celebration featured a talking hand gesture followed by a throat-slashing motion.

Having been linked with numerous transfer speculations in recent times, Elliot reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool, explaining that his goal celebration was meant to emphasize that point.

“It is pretty clear to be honest – I am not leaving. This is my team and my club. I’m a massive fan, and we’re in a great position so far this season,” Elliott said.

“I haven’t really seen the chat, but my friends have messaged me and called me about a few things.

“It is always going to happen in January, especially after being out for a long time and not playing as much as I want to, but that is football.”

Since returning from a 3-month spell on the sidelines, Elliott has struggled to secure a starting spot as Liverpool have excelled in his absence, leading the way on both the domestic and European fronts.

The youngster, who has mainly been used as a substitute under Arne Slot, revealed he has discussed his limited game time with the Dutch boss and is determined to seize any chance that comes his way.

“I’ve had conversations with the gaffer but at the same time I need to understand the situation. The team is flying – we are first in the Premier League and Champions League.

“For me to go in and say I should be starting it would be silly of myself really. You know what the answer is going to be.

“I need to stay patient and when I am getting opportunities, however long it is, just enjoy the moment, especially after being injured for three months at the start of the season.

“I just want to enjoy my football and when a chance comes I need to show the gaffer that if I am needed I am ready.”
