English Premier League legend Alan Shearer has admitted that replacing Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah, will be a big challenge for Liverpool if the forward leaves the club.
Salah’s current contract expires at the end of the season and there has been no concrete agreement between both parties for an extension, with reports suggesting that the former AS Roma forward could favor a move away from the Reds.
While speaking in an interview, the Premier League record goalscorer also praised the Egyptian winger and expressed his desire for him to stay in the league.
“I really hope he stays because he’s such a wonderful player. I love watching him every week and I’m pretty sure the fans do here too.
Because of his training regime and because he keeps himself so fit there’s plenty of time he’s got left. There’s no doubt he can score goals in the next three or four years”, the former Newcastle United striker said.
Salah scored Liverpool’s opener , his 50th European goal for the club, in the 2-1 win over French side Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. The forward now has 22 goals and 17 assists in 31 games in all competitions this season, reiterating his importance to Arne Slot’s team.
“I don’t know what the issues are, why he hasn’t signed, or what he may or may not want, but I know one thing, if he has to leave they’re not going to get in anyone as good as him for a while”, Shearer added.
