Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was disappointed with his side’s performance after their 4-2 loss to Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, fearing for their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
The Cityzens needed to win both of their final two games to be sure of automatic qualification, but suffered a setback with their defeat in France.
Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland put the Premier League Champions 2-0 up early in the second half before the French champions completed a remarkable comeback to seal the win.
“First half, they had the moments. We had one or two but they were better.
We score in five minutes and then they score in five minutes. In that moment they believed. They were better. Quicker and faster”, Guardiola said.
Former Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele started the comeback, before further goals from Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves and a stoppage time strike by Goncalo Ramos completed the memorable win for the Parisiens as Pep Guardiola’s side dropped out of the qualification places.
“The best team won and we have a last chance at home to [Club] Brugge. It could happen. If we do not win, we do not deserve it. This is the reality, we did not get enough points and we have to accept it”, he added.
Manchester City who are now at the risk of missing out of the knockout stages, must win their final group game against Belgian side Club Brugge to be assured of a place in the next round.
