Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has accepted responsibility for the club’s injury troubles this season, admitting the North London side will be back to their best in coming weeks.
The Lilywhites defeated Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday, but have had a campaign blighted by injuries to several key players and currently have about ten first-team players sidelined.
Guigliemo Vicario, Micky Van de Ven, Wilson Odobert and Cristian Romero are long-term absentees while Dominic Solanke, Pepe Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Timo Werner have also missed the past few matches with different degrees of injury.
The Australian coach’s high intensity playing style has been majorly criticized for the club’s high number of injuries and the 59-year old has accepted blame for this reason.
“It’s just injuries. I mean you can walk outside and say, ‘Jeez it’s really bright’, and say to yourself maybe it’s not the sun. But it is the sun, mate, we’ve just got injuries.
Every decision that is made is from me”, the 59-year old admitted.
The North London side have won just one of their previous ten matches in the English Premier League, dropping to 15th on the log, ahead of their weekend clash against relegation-threatened Leicester City.
“I am responsible for this. If you want a head on a stick, take mine, but I am absolutely 100% confident that we are in a better place as a football club today than when I started”, he concluded.
