Technical Director of the Nigerian Football Federation Austin Eguavoen, has implored footballers of the Nigerian National League to be patient in a bid to represent the country.
Players from foreign league and the Nigerian Professional football league constitute the bulk of the National team, with footballers from the second-tier rarely called upon and Eguavoen who was recently replaced by Eric Chelle as the head coach of the Nationa team, has urged the footballers to put in more effort and determination to earn a call-up to the squad.
“You have to crawl before you walk. We are already looking into the NNL to invite quality players into Super Eagles. For instance, Afeez Bankole of Smart City was invited into CHAN Eagles and he showed high quality that one cannot differenciatte him from the NPFL players.
Though, I am not sure whether he made the final list but he was in camp among the last set of players. That showed that we are monitoring exceptional players in the league (NNL)”, Eguavoen said.
The Home-based Super Eagles will participate in the African Nations Championship later in August, with players from the Nigerian National League side in contention to make the squad.
