Sunshine Stars head coach Bobola Akinfolarin was impressed with the team’s performance after they defeated Ikorodu City 4-3 in the Nigerian Professional Football League on Saturday.
The Owena Waves defeated their South West rivals at their temporary stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State on Saturday evening as the Nigerian top flight league made a return from its short break.
Liam Ahmadu opened scoring for the Ondo State Boys, before further goals from Peter Awosanmi and Alao Danlami put them 3-0 up in the first half.
Shola Adelani scored twice for the Lagos Boys to set up a fierce ending, before Danlami scored his second of the game and Sunshine Stars fourth, while Ikorodu stars got a late consolation from Emmanuel Solomon.
“It is not a bad result because in the first round we struggled to score goals despite creating enough chances”, Akinfolarin said after the game.
“As you could see, we scored as many as four goals in one game yet it is still work in progress. We have seen our lapses, trust us to go back and work on them.”
The win moved Sunshine Stars up to 12th on the standings, four points behind their rivals Ikorodu City who dropped to seventh on the standings.
