Barcelona star reacts amid persistent exit rumours

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has stated that he “feels very good” turning out for the Catalan giants amid ongoing rumors about his potential departure from the club.

De Jong has struggled for consistent playing time since returning from a five-month injury layoff in October. While several of his teammates have signed contract extensions, the Dutchman’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.

Speculation has linked him to a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, reportedly driven by former Barcelona director Ramon Planes. After Barcelona’s 7-1 victory over Valencia on Sunday, De Jong addressed his future, telling Mundo Deportivo: “I feel very good at Barcelona.

“I’m just focused on the present, and then there will be time for everything.”

“I have been feeling good since after the Christmas break. I am 100% fit, and I have to prove that I deserve to play.

“I feel very good after scoring, and above all, I am happy with the victory.”

Barcelona’s emphatic 7-1 victory over Valencia ended a four-game winless streak in LaLiga, bringing them within seven points of league leaders Real Madrid. However, Hugo Duro’s strike just before the hour extended Barcelona’s run to 10 league games without a clean sheet.

“We are a team that scores a lot of goals, and we attack well,” De Jong added. “We need to keep this up. In the next match, we must keep a clean sheet.

“Valencia are not a bad team. I believe they have a better squad than it seems. They deserve credit. We went through a rough patch, but we must focus on starting to win again.”
