AFCON 2025: Former Super Eagles captain confident of success

Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles chances at the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

The continental event which is scheduled to hold later this year in Morocco, will commence on the 21st of December till the 18th of January 2026. Yobo, who captained Nigeria to their last victory in 2013, assisted with the draw which placed Nigeria in Group C alongside African giants Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.

“We have a very talented team, and the players are continuing to improve. We have some of the best players in this generation, and they showed their potential at the last AFCON. While the group is tough, I have no doubt that the Super Eagles will make it out”, Yobo said.

The Super Eagles were beaten in the final of the 2023 edition by host nations Ivory Coast, and Yobo believes the country possesses quality in their squad to emerge victorious at the end of the tournament.

“I hope we start strong and carry that momentum all the way to the final. We’re building on our performance from AFCON 2023, and it’s time we bring the trophy back. With the players we have and a great new coach, I believe we can do it”, he continued.
