Bayer Leverkusen Nathan Tella has expressed desire in getting a recall to feature for the Nigerian National team.
The 25-year old was called up for the first time for the Super Eagles in 2023, under former coach Jose Pereiro and made his debut- his only game so far for the team, against Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier in November 2023.
He started the game before he was substituted at half-time as the match ended 1-1, and after two years away from the national team, the Arsenal academy product has stated his desire for a return.
“Whether I feel I deserve a call is not for me to say.
I’ve never been a player that says I should be called up I have to work hard and earn my chances. If the new coach thinks I’ve done enough I will happily accept the call-up but if it’s not then I will have to work even harder”, Tella said.
The forward who scored his first-ever UCL goal on Wednesday night, as the German champions defeated Czech Republic side Sparta Prague 2-0 to secure qualification for the next round of the competition, will be hoping to impress Super Eagles new head coach Eric Chelle with his recent performances.
“It’s an honour to play for your country and every opportunity I get to represent I will give 100 percent and hopefully get the recognition back home”, he added.
