Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface is expected to remain at the club this month as his proposed move to the Saudi Premier League to join Al Nassr has collapsed.
Despite passing the medicals and reaching an agreement with the Saudi club on personal terms, the 24-year old is now set to stay at the German champions after the deal for his move fell through.
Boniface joined Xabi Alonso’s side from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023, and became a pivotal part of the squad as they ended the season with a first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season, with the Nigerian claiming the accolade for the Bundesliga rookie of the season.
The Super Eagles star made 15 appearances, scoring eight goals for Die Werkself before suffering an injury that has kept him on the sidelines since November. He recently returned to the Matchday squad, but had been excused from the team with uncertainty surrounding his future.
Al Nassr, have now reportedly set sights on 21-year old Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, whose signing has been prioritized over the Nigerian.
Boniface, who recently signed a contract extension up until 2029 making him one of the highest earners at the club, is expected to return to Bayer Leverkusen’s squad for their weekend match against Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga, as they bid to defend the title they won last season.
