“A very difficult season”- Bernando Silva expects changes after UCL exit

Manchester City midfielder Bernando Silva expects a total revamp of the team after their disappointing season continued with a first round playoffs elimination at the hands of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Premier League champions lost 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, as a Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick was enough to seal a 6-3 aggregate victory for the European champions, and Silva who was part of the side that won the UCL in 2023, believes changes must be made for them to get back to their best level.

“Of course, this season so far has been very frustrating. There are things that we can no longer recover: the Champions League, winning the Premier League. We’re out of the two most important competitions so we’re very, very sad.

I’m sure that with some changes that the club will probably make at the end of the season because that’s how it is when you don’t win in football, we will try to bring this club back to the level it should be at”, the Portuguese international said.

Manchester City suffered their earliest UCL elimination since the 2012-2013 season, with the FA Cup remaining their only realistic chance of securing a trophy at the end of the season.

“It [the slump] seems incomprehensible to me too”, he continued. “I don’t have the right answer. There is a mixture of many things that have happened in the club too. Of course, not just the injuries, that’s no excuse.

The levels of calm and confidence are not the same this season. The way the team plays is not the same and we have to get it back as quickly as possible.”
