“You can’t slip up”- Ancelotti urges players to remain competitive as title race heats up

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admonished his side to build momentum as the race for the Spanish Laliga heats up between them and their rivals.

The European champions are third on the standings, level on points with second-placed Barcelona and two points behind neighbors Atletico Madrid, ahead of their weekend’s encounter against Girona.

Los Blancos have been superb in the UEFA Champions League playoffs eliminating English Premier League champions Manchester City, but have struggled in the past month in Laliga and Ancelotti believes there is no margin for error.

“It’s a game in an important moment of the season. We played well against City, and we have to repeat that. We’ve reached a point [in the season] where you can’t slip up”, Ancelotti said.

“We’ve had a bit of bad luck,” Ancelotti said. “In the three games we played quite well, less so against Espanyol, more against Atlético, and better against Osasuna with ten men. We have to keep going. If you play well and have a good attitude, the results will reward that.”

The 15-time European champions have only won once in their last four league games and face a must-win clash against Girona on Sunday as they hope to catch up on their rivals.

“It’s difficult to find a more competitive league than Spain. In Italy there aren’t many teams competing [at the top], and in England there’s Liverpool.

Here, there are three teams with one point between them, teams of a very high level. It’s a league that will be decided in the last game”, he added.
