SPL: Super Eagles duo set to get new coach at Rangers

Super Eagles stars Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun are set to work under a new manager at Rangers after Philippe Clemente was sacked on Sunday after just 16 months in charge.

The 50-year old joined the Scottish club in October 2023 to replace Michael Beale, but has been shown the way out of the club after a series of disappointing showings, including Sunday’s 2-0 home loss to St Mirren.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Rangers confirmed that Clemente will no longer work at the club.

“Rangers Football Club can confirm it has tonight parted company with men’s first-team manager, Philippe Clement.

The club would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Philippe for his hard work and dedication during his spell in charge. A further update from the club will follow in due course.”

Although the club are still in contention for the UEFA Europa League, facing Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the Round of 16, they are currently 13 points behind league leaders Celtic with just 11 games to play.

Gers also suffered a shock elimination to lower-tier side Queens Park in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, while also losing the league cup final to Celtic in December.

Former coach Steven Gerrard has been linked with a return to the club, while former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is also a candidate for the vacant position.
