Report: Manchester City plan summer swoop for German star

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly interested in a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz.

Pep Guardiola’s side are prepared for a summer revamp to overhaul their ageing squad and the German star has been identified as a replacement for Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne, who is subject of transfer speculation from Saudi Arabia.

The 21-year old was awarded the Bundesliga player of the season for the 2023-24 season after an impressive season, where he led Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen to a maiden league and cup double, after they finished unbeaten and also got to the final of the UEFA Europa League before being defeated by Atalanta courtesy of an Ademola Lookman’s hat-trick.

This season, the superstar has continued his remarkable form with 15 goals and 13 assists in 36 games in all competitions, as the German side look to defend their league and cup title.

With the Cityzens currently in a state of rebuild after a disappointing season, Wirtz is seen as a long-time valuable replacement with his style of play similar to the pattern at the Premier league champions.

The German is valued at over £100 million and is contracted to the Bundesliga champions until 2028 and an agreement could be reached between both clubs in the summer for the 21-year old to move to England.
