Cyriel Dessers: Super Eagles star hails mentality after scoring brace in comeback victory

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has hailed his side character after their impressive 4-2 comeback victory over Kilmarnock in a Scottish League match on Wednesday.

In the club’s first game since the dismissal of Philippe Clemente, they struggled initially, falling behind 2-0 after Kilmarnock scored twice in three first half minutes. Gers pulled one back before halftime through Czech forward Vaclav Cerny.

Dessers who was linked with a move away from the club in the January transfer window, revealed that interim coach Barry Ferguson told the players to keep their head in the game and secure the victory.

“At half-time the gaffer told us that we were still in the game through Vaclav’s goal.

But if you see the way we reacted, with the mentality and character we showed, we can be happy with the win as this is a tough place to come to”, the Nigerian international said.

The former Cremonese forward scored twice in the second half, taking his season’s tally to 20 in all competitions to complete the comeback, before substitute Nedim Bajrami sealed the comprehensive win with Rangers fourth of the game in the closing stages.

“We fought back in the last 15 minutes of the first half and then we had to continue that, which we did. It was a very nice second half”, he added.

Dessers will hope to continue his fine form when Rangers host Motherwell on Saturday, before traveling to Turkey to face Jose Mourinho’a Fenerbahce on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League.
