West Bromich Albion defender Semi Ajayi has been ruled out of the Super Eagles crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March against Rwanda and Zimbabwe due to an injury.
The 31-year old was injured in the first half of West Brom’s 2-0 win over Oxford United in the English Championship last weekend, and further scans on the injury revealed that he will be out of action for several weeks.
“Albion can confirm Semi Ajayi will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.
He will now enter a period of rehabilitation and will target a return before the season’s conclusion. Everyone at the club wishes Semi a speedy recovery”, the club posted on social media.
Semi Ajayi who has made 41 appearances for the Super Eagles and was part of the team that got to the finals of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, is now expected to miss the team’s qualifiers next month as he continues his rehabilitation.
His injury is a huge blow for the Nigerian National team, who are also sweating on the fitness of superstar Victor Osimhen and captain William Troost-Ekong as they look to revive their disappointing qualifying campaign.
