Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is confident the Nigerian National team will achieve success under new coach Eric Chelle, ahead of next month’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in a doubleheader in March, looking to bounce back from a dismal start to their campaign and Yobo believes the team will make a big impact under the new head coach.
“There’s a new coach for the Super Eagles (Eric Chelle) and I expect the players to be on top of their game to prove to him they are good enough to play for Nigeria.
This is what often happens in clubs with new coaches. So, I expect the Super Eagles to be at their best”, the former Everton defender said.
The former Mali head coach was appointed in January to replace Austin Eguavoen, who had been in interim charge since the departure of Finidi George last year and his major task is to ensure that the Super Eagles clinch a ticket for the World’s biggest event, scheduled to take place later next year.
“He has been appointed as the Super Eagles coach and we should give him maximum support”, Yobo added.
“As former coach of Mali, he has the experience and knowledge of African football and we will be playing against African teams, not England.”
Nigeria currently occupy the fifth position with just three points and will hope to secure their first victory when they travel to face Rwanda on the 17th of March.
