Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has stated that Denmark defender Andreas Christensen has suffered an injury setback and will miss Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad.
The former Chelsea defender was cleared to feature in this weekend’s game after recently returning to team training, but the German coach has revealed that the 28-year old is now set to miss up to four weeks of action after his recent setback.
“What I can say now is that Andreas got injured in this morning’s training session,” Flick said before the game.
“He was an option for Real Sociedad on Sunday, but again he is injured. We are looking now how heavy is the injury. Hopefully it’s not so much.”
Christensen made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in Barcelona ‘s first game of the season against Valencia in August 2024, but suffered an Achilles injury which ruled him out of action until January.
He suffered another injury in training before being cleared to face the Basque side this weekend, but has now been ruled out after suffering a calf injury in training.
“We want at least four players for this position. Normally we have five really good centre-backs, but without Andreas, it’s four”, Flick added.
The Catalan giants host Real Sociedad on Sunday afternoon hoping to secure a victory to keep their spot at the top of the Laliga standings.
