Rangers defender Leon Balogun is confident his side can achieve victory when they face Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League round of 16.
The Scottish side have been inconsistent in recent months leading to the dismissal of Belgian manager Philippe Clemente, who was replaced with Barry Ferguson on an interim basis.
Rangers finished in the top eight in the group stage format securing automatic qualification to the next round, while their Thursday’s opponent had to eliminate Belgian side Anderlecht 5-2 on aggregate in the playoff round.
“It’s a big opportunity for us on Thursday, playing away. It might work in our favour that we have the first leg away, especially after recent domestic results, and it could help get the supporters back on our side”, Balogun said.
The Super Eagles defender who is expected to feature in the encounter after returning to action from an injury lay-off in last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Motherwell, is assured they can overcome their opponent to secure qualification for the next round of the tournament.
“But we need to take at least two massive steps forward from today if we want to get a result there.
It also helps that we play European football again shortly after, just a week later. So, it’s a huge chance and a massive opportunity for us”, the former Mainz defender added.
