Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to lock horns for the signature of rising Premier League star

Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have both set their sights on acquiring fast-rising Hungarian full-back Milos Kerkez from Premier League club side Bournemouth.

Kerkez, 21, has developed into one the most exciting young defenders in the Premier League since joining the Cherries from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023.

His performances for Bournemouth in the 2024/2025 campaign have been especially impressive. As a result, he has caught the attention of two of the biggest teams in Europe, who also happen to be City rivals.

Real Madrid see Kerkez as a long-term alternative to their current left-back options Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. The Hungarian’s physicality as well as his ability to contribute significantly on both ends of the pitch, makes him a perfect candidate to strengthen that area of Los Blancos’ squad.

However, the Spanish champions will face stiff competition from their rugged neighbours Atletico Madrid, according to a report from Spanish media outlet Fichajes.

The report claims that Atleti are also looking to strengthen in that left-back area and Kerkez has emerged as the club’s preferred option to add the much needed defensive stability and attacking impetus that part of the team has lacked at times this season.

With two of Spain’s most legendary clubs set to a bidding contest for his signature, Kerkez will likely have the luxury of making a choice based on the sporting project as well as the financial package on offer.

Other European teams are also monitoring the situation of Kerkez at Bournemouth. Liverpool have been touted as another potential destination, with the Reds looking for a suitable replacement for the ageing Andy Robertson.
