Edo Queens head coach, Philip Shaibu has reiterated the club’s desire to replicate the impressive record of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Bendel Insurance in the 2022-23 season.
Bendel Insurance had recorded a 26-game unbeaten run in all competitions two years ago.Shaibu stated that Edo Queens’ target is to maintain their unbeaten run this season and defend the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) title.
Winning the league title is an automatic qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League set to hold in November.
The Nigerian team featured in the Women’s Champions League for the first time last season but were defeated by eventual winners TP Mazembe at the Semi-finals and lost 4-3 on penalties to Egyptian side FC Masar in the third place playoff.
“Having won the NWFL title last season and remaining unbeaten so far this term, Edo Queens are determined to replicate the invincible record of their male counterparts, Bendel Insurance FC.
“Our target is to win the league again this year and make a strong return to the continent. The girls have gone unbeaten in the first half of the season, and I am praying they sustain this form until the end. Our goal is to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League and, this time, win the title for Nigeria,” he said.
