Sunshine Stars head coach Abubakar Bala has assured that his side are focused on getting more points from their remaining league matches this season, in their bid to survive relegation into the second tier.
The Owena Waves are currently in a relegation battle, occupying the 18th position on the Nigerian Premier Football League standings with 32 points, and will need to gain as much points as possible as they look to avoid dropping down to the lower division.
The Ondo State side will be boosted by their 1-1 draw away at Nasarawa United which followed a 4-2 home win over Kwara United and Bala is confident his side can continue their recently-found momentum, as they hope to retain their top flight status.
“It was a hard-fought game, and the boys gave their all. We are grateful for that result. Since the start of the second round, we haven’t secured an away win, but the team is improving in that aspect. We believe more points will come from our away matches,” Bala said.
Sunshine Stars will host Plateau United in a must-win encounter at their temporary home stadium in Ikenne, where they’ll face a team that’s only two points ahead of them.
“We are working on our concentration and finishing. We scored four goals in our last home game, and maintaining that momentum will help us pick up crucial points both at home and away. With two or three more positive results, we should be out of the relegation zone,” he added.
