Tottenham Hotspur’s Olga Ahtinen’s Move to Hammarby Breaks Down

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Olga Ahtinen’s anticipated transfer to Swedish club Hammarby has unexpectedly stalled.

The 27-year-old Finnish international, who joined Spurs in 2023, has struggled for game time this season, registering only three starts in the Women’s Super League. In total, she has made six appearances across all competitions for Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur and Hammary had earlier reached an agreement in principle. Ahtinen had traveled to Sweden last week for a medical examination, signaling that the deal was nearing completion. However, recent developments indicate that the move has collapsed, leaving Ahtinen’s immediate future uncertain.

The reasons behind the breakdown remain undisclosed, and neither club has released an official statement regarding the failed transfer. This development marks the second instance of a Tottenham player being involved in transfer news outside the traditional January window.

Recently, goalkeeper Becky Spencer joined Chelsea on an emergency loan for the remainder of the season. Spencer, who has been with Spurs since 2019 and amassed 95 appearances, made the switch to provide cover for Chelsea following an injury to their January signing, Femke Liefting. Spencer’s move was confirmed on March 1, 2025, and she was listed as a substitute in Chelsea’s subsequent match against Brighton.

With Ahtinen’s move not expected to materialize, Hammarby prepared for the new season in the Damallsvenskan, the highest division of Swedish women’s football, they will need to reassess their midfield options in light of the collapsed transfer. Meanwhile, Tottenham face the challenge of integrating Ahtinen back into the squad.
