Arsenal ‘weighing up’ summer reunion between Mikel Arteta and former Manchester City star

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move to reunite head coach Mikel Arteta and Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

The North Londoners will be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer as the future of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli remain shrouded in uncertainty while Raheem Sterling’s loan spell will expire at the end of this season.

According to SPORT BILD, Leroy Sane, whose current contract at Bayern Munich is set to expire this summer, has emerged as a player of interest for the Gunners.

Sane played under Arteta during the Spaniard’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City and the Gunners hierarchy are now contemplating a potential reunion for both player and manager at the Emirates.

Bayern Munich and Sane have yet to engage in concrete discussions regarding a contract extension. While the club wants to keep him, and Sane himself has expressed a desire to stay, concerns over his consistency on the pitch have stalled further progress on that front.

The 29-year-old has not been a guaranteed starter under Vincent Kompany but has still contributed eight goals and four assists across all competitions. Despite his undeniable talent, his inconsistency remains a concern, as he has never scored more than eight goals in a single Bundesliga season.

Bayern may have to part ways with Sane as the winger’s contract is set to expire this summer. Arsenal have the opportunity to negotiate a free transfer immediately, potentially securing a deal before Bayern have a chance to sort out the German’s contract situation.
